I have to say that one of the best parts of what I do is receiving packages. It’s like Christmas up in this house everyday, and I feel so grateful that brands think I have some sort of street cred to try out and test their products…..! Probably the biggest benefit for all of us is that it forces me to get out of my box because I have resources to try things that I normally wouldn’t gravitate to on my own. Then, I’m able to try it out so you can visually see if it’s something that you want to incorporate in your life. Hence, the liquid metallic lipsticks from Smashbox.
Never in my regular routine would I be putting metallic lipstick on, especially in some of the shades in the collection. BUT, I played lip dress-up one afternoon and put allllllllllll of them on so you guys could see. It was actually kind of fun! There are 12 shades, so my lips were kind of mad at me at the end, but I did it for the greater good of lipstick testing. As you will see in some of the images, there are colors I’d NEVER wear, but it was fun to try. Not saying they aren’t cool, just not my vibe. I wish I could be a cool green lipped girl, but I’m just not, LOL! Here’s what I discovered:
These babies STAY ON. They last. Trust me, it was a real struggle to try to get each of them off in-between takes. A regular makeup wipe won’t take them off. I ended up having to layer my lips with a gooey lip balm, let that soak in for a minute, and then that moisture and lubrication helped to get the lipstick off.
They are metallic, and it looks really cool. It gives the lips some sort of dimension. I paired the lips with just a simple eye. I wanted my lips to be the focus. I used a nice champagne shimmer eyeshadow to compliment my lips, with a few coats of mascara. Skin was my regular clean glow, with a little cheeky contour. I think if you are going for a bold lip, take it easy everywhere else. I think even a nice no mascara naked eye would be really cool paired with some of the darker shades in this collection.
You can make you lips look huge! I know I have pretty full lips, but WOW I was able to draw them out pretty big and it still looked “natural”. What I mean is, they are opaque enough that you can easily draw out of your lipline, and you cannot tell. There is enough pigment in these to cover. They also have so much pigment in just one swipe, as you’ll see in the video.
These are so much fun for an evening look or holiday party, so I’d say give it a go! I was so surprised how much I was digging my look with these lips on, as you can see it changed my attitude in a lot of the pictures. It made me feel kind of sexy/sultry/powerful, which is always a fun change. Isn’t it so interesting how makeup can do that? I made a fun little video below so you can see all the colors in action, and the background song is from a band called IO Echo. I worked Ioanna Giko years ago, and I love her music. I thought it was the perfect mood for the video, and I don’t understand the world of copyright these days, so hopefully YouTube won’t kick me off for using this song…..lol! Anyways, enjoy, and totally step out of your box with me and try out some metallic lips this month! Xx
