A Walk in the Park…

….and just like that we are officially in SUMMER!  Los Angeles decided to really give a WARM welcoming to summer with temperatures rising into the 100’s, and I have my non air conditioned house to prove it!  I adore summer, and am so happy that it’s here.  Lately I’ve really been trying to enjoy my weekends (if I’m not on a shoot) and really take the time to do things that I love and connect with people that I care about.  Most of my weekends include going to coffee, yoga, meeting up with my friends at our favorite market for a picnic style breakfast, organizing around my apartment, and going out for a nice dinner and drinks.  ON REPEAT! Those simple things really make me happy, and re-charge me so that I can have a productive work week.

Last Saturday was kind of like all of my Saturday’s (including yoga and coffee), but I decided to walk instead of drive.  Luckily I live in an area of Los Angeles where I’m able to do that.  I live really close to a park so after my yoga I went and grabbed a coffee with a friend and headed to the park.  The walk started off just as any of them do, but at some point a little twist was added into the mix…… I think I’m going to let my pictures do the explaining……

Oh yes do you know where this is going?  At first I thought that stand was adorable and I just wanted to get a little toy…..so I did….but then I seemed to make some new friends along the way!

Full on water gun fight.  They ganged up on me…..and totally SOAKED me!  It was SO much fun, and nice to let loose a little and remember what it’s like to be a kid.  I get so in my head all the time about work, about my goals, about my to-do list, and whatever else is going on, that sometimes I forget to PLAY.  It was so refreshing to walk up to these kids and just PLAY.  Kids are fun!  They instantly want to be your friend, they don’t care who you are, and they don’t hold back.  We ran, we screamed, we laughed, and we had fun.  Luckily my friend Teddy was there to capture it, and actually was the one that discovered the little toy vendor! (Thanks Teddy!)

I’m wearing some sunglasses from Polaroid that I absolutely love (especially for moments like this.)  These glasses in particular are REALLY light weight (without looking that way) and are a rubber frame!  So good because they don’t slip down my face like a lot of my heavier sunglasses do, and they are flexible so they won’t break.  Perfect for throwing into your bag or in your pocket without worrying.  They are also polarized, which I’ve talked a little bit about in the past, and I think is super important.  Basically polarized lenses block glare.  Glare reduces visibility and can cause pain/sensitivity to the eyes.  By blocking the glare, polarized lenses give the correct color perception and help to see everything in perfect clarity.  Make sense?  It’s just as important to protect your eyes from the sun as it is to protect your skin with SPF (and you know how passionate I am about that….)  I love having sunglass options like these for a little bit more of a sportier option (love me a good wayfarer shape), especially when I know I’m going to be spending a lot of time in the sun or sweating a lot.  And I feel like the older I’m getting the wiser I’m getting about really caring for my eyes.  You can shop these glasses I’m wearing (also available in other colors HERE.)

My summer advice for you: get outside, be spontaneous, PLAY, protect your skin, protect your eyes, and make it the best one yet!  Surround yourself with people that inspire you, and set intentions of what you really want to get out of your summer (I just did this in my yoga practice).  It’s the FIRE element, and we can create some of our own HEAT in our lives and make it the best summer yet.  I’m so glad I was able to learn a valuable lesson on this walk about being spontaneous and playing like a kid!  Cheers to your summer 2016, and thanks for following along with mine!  Xx
