THE BEAUTY BALM! Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Just the name of it makes me want to have it. It originated in Korea and the East Asian markets- where they call it a Blemish Balm. BB cream is promoted as an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock. It can be worn alone as a tinted moisturizer, over serum and moisturizer as a regular foundation, and under powder, depending on the desired amount of coverage. Sounds pretty amazing, right?
Typically they come in a limited amount of colors. It is because it was created to oxidize and match the user’s skin tone. The coverage is often mineral-based, and is intended to both cover and treat blemishes such as acne, sun spots and age spots. It also has anti-wrinkle, anti-inflammatory and soothing effects.
Because this is a newer product on the market, I haven’t had a chance to try as many different brands as I’d like to. I do, however, still have a few favorites.
Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm- It has light diffusing pigments that tint the skin and add a lot of radiance. That’s what I love about this particular balm. It has the most beautiful glow to it. It also is an anti-aging, multi-mineral complex, has SPF 20, is oil free, and hypo-allergenic. It is also 100% Vegan! This is one I use personally when I am wearing something more than just my plain old moisturizer for the day.
Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35- This formula combines moisturizer, treatment, Broad Spectrum SPF and a lightweight foundation all in one. (I turned my mom onto this one and her skin looks amazing!!) Bobbi Brown actually has come out with 9 different shades- which is much more than other brands as far as color range goes. It does not have the added illuminators like the Too Faced balm- so it might be more appropriate for anyone with more mature skin- or not wanting to have the extra glow!
Diorskin Nude BB Creme- This particular cream has a fresh and airy texture. It is enhanced with a blend of antioxidants- and it moisturizes, smooths, protects, and corrects the skin with sheer coverage. It has a SPF 10 and definitely gives a fresh glow and dewy finish. I use this a lot on clients that have day time events to attend- as it gives a nice flawless look, without trying too hard.
Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm- Typically, BB creams don’t boast serious coverage, but this particular BB cream contains teeny microspheres that are supposed to reduce the appearance of wrinkle depth by 84 percent. It turns back the hands of time by visibly improving the look and feel of skin- and has an amazing velvety finish. It’s oil free, has a SPF 30 broad-spectrum, and has been shown to increase antioxidant activity by up to 89.7% .
I used to be a crazed fan of the tinted moisturizers- but now am a crazed fan of the BB creams. There is a lot of really incredible technology behind these products and we all know that the Asian market has always been the leaders in the best skin care- so let’s follow their lead!! Xx
