Bikini READY!

I just wanted to take a quick minute and talk about a question I get asked a lot: My  HEALTH + FITNESS!  If you have been following me the past month on Instagram you may have thought I’ve given up my day job to travel and become an Instagram bikini girl…..LOL just kidding but my Mom was like…..”really Nikki…..another bikini pic?!”  Yes I do apologize there were a lot of swim pics…..but hey that’s what I was up to, and that’s what I was wearing!!!

Anyways, I struggle with this because I never want to look like I’m trying to be a show-off parading around in a bikini….but on the other hand…..I work so hard to keep myself in shape and confident to walk around in a bikini that I shouldn’t be ashamed and should be proud.  Make sense?  I think I always am an advocate on celebrating our bodies and being confident….but I find myself being insecure too!  It’s a harsh world out there….especially on social media where you are damned if you do, and damned if you don’t!  Anyways, I hope you all know my intention is to help you all, and to also inspire you to be the best version of yourself.

So since I’ve been posting a lot of summertime pics, I have been asked a lot what I do to keep in shape.  Truth is: there is no big secret that you haven’t heard before!  It’s honestly just self discipline and consistency.  Not only with exercise, but with diet too!  It’s definitely not easy, but I do it because ultimately it makes me happy.  I am at my happiest and best version of myself when I am eating well and exercising.  There is no secret diet pill, it’s just all about a lifestyle and a consistency.  I am not perfect all the time, I am human….sometimes I want that dessert or pizza, and I will have it!  But I also want that broccoli and salad too!  I try to live the 80/20 rule, where 80% of the time I am eating clean, and 20% of the time I allow a little treat, a glass of wine, or something that isn’t apart of my normal diet.

My regular diet consists of a lot of REAL, WHOLE foods.  I don’t do anything that comes in a box.  I stick with fresh vegetables, full-fat dairy/yogurts/cheese, animal protein, fresh fruit, nuts, minimal carbohydrates, and lots of water.  I have to say, however, everyone’s bodies are different and process foods differently.  I don’t do well with carbs.  I know this about my body.  They make me hit a wall, and feel sluggish.  I also get a little swollen in my belly when I’m having them, so I try to avoid them.  I also try not to eat dairy everyday, but if I’m going to, it’s going to be the real-deal full fat dairy.  I don’t want to have things that have been messed with or processed too much to make it “lower in calories or fat.”  What that means to me is that they put a bunch of junk into it to make it taste better and appear healthier: but it’s not.  I think the thing to remember is the more that food is in it’s natural state, the healthier it is going to be for your body.  It’s also trial and error to see what foods agree the most with your body.  What works for me may not work for you!  But I do think if you are eating a lot of the listed foods above, your body will thank you and be happy!

In regards to exercise, I try to move my body everyday,  I literally have to.  It’s a mental cleanse for me.  I need to sweat!  I can tell if I start to feel anxious or a little down, and it’s usually because I haven’t gotten in a good sweat session.  My body craves it!  I always switch up my workouts, and listen to my body.  I’m happy as long as I’m moving!  Lately it’s been a lot of yoga, walking, and running for me.  Previously I was doing a lot of boxing.  Who knows what I’ll do next!  It’s just all about doing what feels good for you and what makes you happy.

If I have any advice for you, it would be to create habits.  Magic doesn’t happen overnight.  I’ve had to remind myself this over the years: slow and steady wins the race.  If you are trying to lose some weight or tighten and tone your body, remember it’s going to be more about consistency than having a quick fix.  When you create habits, sooner or later you don’t have to think anymore, you just do.  You chose the healthy option because you love the taste and you love the way it makes you feel, and you exercise without thinking because it is just what you do, and you know how it will make you feel afterwards.  It’s that simple.  I know some people say they don’t have time, but I have to disagree.  Think how much time we spend on our phones everyday…..if you took the combination of time you spend scrolling through your phone, I bet you could have gotten a workout in!

Ultimately, all these things are in place to make you happy.  It’s the truth.  If your body is healthy and happy, you are happy!  I hope my words can inspire you, and know that I want to encourage you to be the best version of yourself, because I know what it will do for your confidence.  I’m all about a whole beauty, and what we put in our bodies and how we move it, affects our inner and outer beauty.  Let’s all be strong, confident, fresh, consistent, and whole together!  Xx

    Nikki! Social media can be tough but you should always be proud of who you are, how you feel and what you think and post that! Thats what keeps us engaged! You have an amazing body and I would also post as many photos as I want! lol Also, could’t agree more with you about consistency when it comes to a healthy diet and lifestyle. Great post!
